Bartel Groening, Hannah. Glisten for string quartet
Written by one of Violin Music by Women's favorite composers (see the "Kansas Memories Suite" in vol. 1), this short quartet was inspired by Howard Shore's score for the Lord of the Rings movies. Contrasting a haunting opening theme with lush ensemble sections, intermediate players will enjoy the modern movie feel. Mainly 1st-3rd positions, with some 4th position in the cello and violin 1 parts; sections change between 4/4 and 3/4 time. Score and parts sold together. Scroll down for a recording!
This quartet is the second piece in the "Developing Contemporary Techniques Series" from Sleepy Puppy Press. The series seeks out living composers to write chamber works that provide a gentle introduction for intermediate players to the styles, harmonic language, and techniques needed for 20th and 21st century music. Inspired by the Kronos Quartet's "50 for the Future" project, these pieces help intermediate players understand and enjoy the classical music of their own time.
Hannah Bartel Groening and Jessica Tollefson, violins; Laura Bradshaw Froilan, viola; Sarah Bartel Rychner, cello.
