This volume contains three never-before-published short pieces likely written by Clarke in the 1940's. The first, For 2 Violins, was dated 1940 and is a highly chromatic duo in F minor. The other two pieces were found accidentally, stuck in a book of hers and acting as bookmarks, and consist of a solo line each. Written on a legal pad turned sideways, it's possible they were composed as teaching pieces for her niece Magdalen during the war years when Clarke stayed with family is the U.S. While playable in their solo form, Alan and Andrew S. Bell (composition graduate students at Kansas State University at the time) took on the job of creating accompaniments--both piano and a duo violin part-- for the Jig/March and Lament to make them more useful for teaching and performance. The music includes two volumes and scores and parts. Links to videos of each piece in all configurations below.
