Barns, Selected Short Pieces DIGITAL
The British violinist, Ethel Barns, was an active performer, composer and impresario of a concert series in London during the early years of the twentieth century. Trained at the Royal Academy of Music by the French violinists Prosper Sainton and Emile Sauret, Barns also studied composition and was an accomplished pianist. She wrote over 100 works, most of them for her own use as a performer.
The three short pieces in this collection (Serenade, Morceau, and Canzonetta) are charming salon-style works that can be played separately or together as a set. For programming or teaching, they could be used in the same way as pieces by Kreisler. You'll find both expressive lyricism and virtuoso moments in these little gems.
