Please Don't Let them Play Mozart! Vol. 4 Gehot, Joseph Quartet in D major, Op. 1 No. 4
This series seeks to provide an alternative to the much-abused works of Mozart as played by developing string quartets. Pieces are technically more forthright, requiring less finesse while still offering an opportunity to learn characteristic phrasing and elements of bow control needed in Classical-period music.
Composed by a Belgian contemporary of Mozart, these duets sparkle in Classical period style. This publication was prepared from a 1777 edition by William Napier. There are ample opportunities for teamwork and quartet "conversations." While the range is generally 1st-3rd position, the music is interesting enough for advanced students and professionals. An optional Violin 3 (same as viola part) is included with the edition.
